Eek! My baby is almost a year old! We’ll soon be done with our little monthly photo shoots. I’ll still update of course, but not so strictly on the month. I wanted to be sure I properly documented his first year, and I’m so glad I did! Thanks for following along ๐Ÿ™‚

So – what is little dude up to this month? ย Well, the biggest news is that he is finally NOT sick! Oh man. He was sick for 17 days with a cold/flu, and then it developed into Hand Foot and Mouth, a common childhood virus. Common or not, it was a nightmare. He had sores in his mouth, a constant fever of 100-103, and at the end broke out in a rash all over his body. Between the sores in his mouth and stuffy nose, he would barely eat and couldn’t sleep. Poor little guy. But now, finally, he is himself! He’s smiling and goofing off, teasing me and getting me to chase him, playing games, hugging his stuffed animals, crawling everywhere and working on standing and walking. He has his appetite back, so his growth should get back on track too. He’s overdue for a growth spurt, still wearing the clothes he wore at Christmastime! He’s a little peanut, still under 20 pounds. He’ll catch up!

He loves to hug and snuggle with me, and smile and laugh with Jamie. He’s been very chatty – he babbles and sings all the time. He says a few actual words too! He says Daddy, Mama, Hi, Yeah, Dog, and That. He’s great with “that” as he extends his little pointer finger as far as he can reach to let us know he wants THAT! ย Often accompanied with an excited eyebrows-up expression and an enthusiastic “Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!”

Playwise, he loves to explore how things work and move. He likes to bat and chase toys or my big balance ball around the house, is figuring out the shape-sorter, and likes to stack blocks. He loves flipping the thick pages of his books, and ripping pages out of my magazines ๐Ÿ˜‰

He has 8 teeth, and is ready for his first haircut! I did a tiny trim on his bangs to get them out of his eyes, but he’s ready for the real deal. Although I might cry to see those wispy little curls on the back of his head go!

Good morning babes-babes ๐Ÿ™‚

I love this excited face when he discovers something ๐Ÿ™‚

He loves his walker! He was running around the house yesterday. He loves when I chase him, or let him chase me ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Ooooh… Lexi! Get her! (ignore the random towel on the chair – Lexi had just gotten a bath after romping in the mud) (and um… ignore the other random objects on the floor. I have an energetic 11-month old ๐Ÿ™‚ )

This is the “Eeeeeee! I neeeeed that!” face!

Gah! I love him! ย Almost birthday time, baby!

  • Raia - Love the cute pictures of your adorable little boy! I feel for you with the sick baby, it’s the worst when they are sick : (. My daughter was sick for the first 6 weeks straight after starting daycare. She had an ear infection, stomach bug and then pink-eye. To make matters worse, I also started getting sick! Two stomach flus and a nasty sore throat kept me out of the game. I was not prepared for all the sickness that comes with a daycare baby : ).

Hope you and your family stays healthy!ReplyCancel

  • Laura Fouty - oooh, he’s getting sooo big! starting to look more like a toddler and less like a baby. love his little expressions =)ReplyCancel

  • Laura Feinauer - I can’t believe he is saying words!! Can’t wait to see you all soon!ReplyCancel

  • mom - ooooh getting so big now and keeping you even more busy with him. He looks so healthy and happy, you are doing everything right ๐Ÿ™‚ReplyCancel

I went running today, for the first time in nearly two years. I ran early in my pregnancy, but moved more toward yoga as my belly (and bosom!) expanded. While breastfeeding, same story – there was no running with those G-cup milk jugs! So now that we are done breastfeeding, and my body is mine again, it’s time. I’ve been wanting to go for so long, but you can’t exactly just scoot out and run a few miles while your baby is home sleeping. (Though I’ve thought about it! I wonder how far the monitor reaches…Hm. Kidding, kidding!) I’ve been doing yoga and taking spin class, but it’s just not the same.

Asher has started daycare, and today was my first day home alone. My to-do list is overflowing with items like editing work, album designing, logo development, marketing, blogging, printing,… But all I wanted to do was lace up those shoes and tear out the back door into the morning sunshine. I left my coffee mug sitting on my desk, half full. Emails unanswered.

The warm morning air filled up my lungs, immediately clearing my mind. Sounds of birds chirping and my own breathing and heartbeat filled my ears. Pounding in a rhythm with my feet on the forest floor. Cool mud splashing on my legs. Lexi happily galloping alongside me, her mouth open in a smile, panting wildly. Chasing whitetail deer. Squirrels. Rabbits. Wild turkeys. I smiled broadly as I ran.

Thankful.

Thankful for this life. Thankful to have a job that allows me to work from home. Thankful knowing that my baby is in good hands, learning, socializing, becoming independent. Thankful for my fast legs. My full lungs. My beating heart.

At the end of my run, I did a series of sun salutations at the edge of the tree line. My heart feels full. I feel happy, calm, centered. Thankful.

One last thing. I’m immensely thankful that Lexi is running with me. She seems to be in no pain, and in great joy to have her mama back to herself for a tiny while ๐Ÿ™‚ I think she even enjoyed her post-run bath ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Amanda - Run the riverbank with me please!!! It would be amazinggggg!ReplyCancel

  • Kim Durnell - It looks like you and Lexi played in the mud LOL. Happy Spring to you ๐Ÿ™‚ReplyCancel

  • Danielle - Aahh, I needed a little positive energy and perspective. Thanks!!ReplyCancel

  • mom - just jump right in and get dirty !!!ReplyCancel

I’m way late on the ten month post! We’re over halfway to eleven! ย What is baby boy up to? ย Mostly the same as last check-in: crawling, climbing, standing up with support of furniture, and walking if he’s holding our hands. He started daycare last week when I headed off to Minneapolis for a long weekend. He’s going two days a week so he can socialize and learn new things while mama works. We’re so excited for him! It’ll be so good for him to get out of the house a bit, make some friends, and learn more than I can teach. And, as much as it’s going to suck at first, he needs to get exposed to more germs and get sick here and there so his immune system is ready for school when the time comes! Two days at daycare, and he already has a cold! It’s pretty mild though, and he seems to be feeling pretty great ๐Ÿ™‚

Today, he and I are catching up after being apart for four days. I’ve never even been away from him overnight! I missed him like crazy, but also had a great time just being ME for a few days, and not mom. I was even pretty much free of pain in my back, neck and shoulders! Of course, those aches promptly returned when I pulled my little 20-pounder out of his crib this morning ๐Ÿ˜‰ But all those sweet hugs and smiles he gave me today are worth it, and I’m working on strengthening and stretching to keep the pain down. I love my little booger ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are a few pics from a recent trip to Meijer Gardens, where the butterflies are blooming!

  • Jennifer Aguilar - Oh wow! That first picture is just stunning! What a gorgeous butterfly. All of the pictures are gorgeous, but that first one is so awesome.

    What a cutie!!ReplyCancel
