Oh I love to climb up things and stand up tall! The stools, chairs, couches, window seat, mommy’s legs, the toilet… you name it, I climb it! And boy does that toilet seat cover make an awesome drum! Watch out, I’ll be walking soon!!

  • Laura Fouty - Love the black and white one of Asher on Jamie’s lap with the fingers in his mouth. Great smile ๐Ÿ™‚ReplyCancel

Baby boo is nine months old! He is SO curious and full of goofiness and mischief and fun. Last night all three of us (four with Lexi!) were on the floor playing and wrestling. Asher loves climbing all over us, and he was teasing me and tickling my face. It was so funny! Then he headbutted me in the nose… ouch! Luckily I have a sturdy one ๐Ÿ˜‰ He’s babbling a lot, no real words yet. We keep trying to get him to say dada and mama, but so far all we get in response is baba and a big grin ๐Ÿ™‚ ย I love seeing him learn and grow, turning into a kid. We’re still nursing (only 34% of 9 month-olds still do!), and he eats everything we do now too. He has 4 teeth! We make it a point to have family dinner together every night that we’re home, it’s nice. Asher and I get to have breakfast and lunch dates too ๐Ÿ™‚ ย One of our favorite parts of the day is first thing in the morning, Jamie and I have coffee together while Asher wakes up and plays. Jamie gets his snuggles with baby in, and Asher smells like him for the rest of the morning. (love!) ย Asher loves self-feeding, and always needs his own spoon if it’s not finger food. He’s great with the sippy cup!

We’ve been enjoying these winter days by going sledding in the backyard, and enjoying the unseasonably warm days by taking walks out in the sunshine. Inside, he’s been working on crawling, climbing, and pulling himself up. He’s mastered kneeling, and starting to pull and climb himself up to standing! He keeps me on my toes!

I tried to do my standard monthly photo shoot with him, but he’s way too busy to sit and smile for me. He just wants to grab the camera! So I caught little moments here and there, mostly of him getting into mischief… mostly because that’s what he’s usually doing! But man, is he cute at getting into mischief!

It’s unbelievable how much Asher has changed since Christmas! He’s getting so big!!! Thanks for keeping us up to date Kristen, we love to see your posts. xxxReplyCancel

  • mom - He is getting so big, that smile melts my heart. Those little teeth are so cute. I bet he is getting into everything around the house. He has grown alot the past couple months, cant wait to see him in April ๐Ÿ™‚ReplyCancel

Our little man is quite the adventurer. And he loves danger. I swear, he loves the sound of “no”. Fun game. One of his favorite things (in addition to electrical cords, outlets, and the carbon monoxide detector’s test button) is the metal return air vent on the wall. The vents on the floor aren’t as appealing as the wall mounted ones. You see, when he reaches up, he can strum them and make a really pretty noise. And of course, the metal is all jagged and awful (thank you home builder) and cuts his tiny little fingers. He doesn’t seem to notice – the first time it happened, he strummed, sliced his finger, crawled over to me and was playing on my lap by the time I noticed that we were both covered in blood. Today, I heard him strumming from the other side of the room, where I was wiping down the dining room table. I got to him within about three seconds, but he already had sliced two fingers. His hand was a bloody mess, so I carried him to the bathroom where we proceeded to have a mom vs. baby bloody hand battle. My objective: clean wounds, clean hands, bandage securely. His objective: thrash and wiggle out of mom’s arms and get back to playing with the air vent. Five mangled band-aids, a very bloody washcloth, choice words uttered, an entire box of band-aids spilled all over the floor later… the fingers are bandaged. Baby is napping.

Now.

Looking at this stupid sharp metal vent, I vow to myself that this will never happen again. But how? Google childproofing vents. Unsuccessful.

Think.

Yes.

Go.

I upholstered the vent. The minute I laid him down in his crib, I grabbed an old sheet from the linen closet, removed the vent from the wall, grabbed scissors, a screwdriver, and that super tape from the tool cabinet and went to work. I had this done, photographed, and blogged before he even woke up.

You can call me SuperMom.

fabric upholster vent

I should add that the sheet I used was actually an old bed skirt – the material is SUPER thin, like cheese cloth. Totally breathable. And this isn’t the only intake vent, it’s just his favorite ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • matt - Make some fancy ones and sell them on Etsy!ReplyCancel

  • Danielle - New game: see how quick I can tear off that soft, quiet fabric! ๐Ÿ™‚ReplyCancel

  • Carissa - My 8 month old soon just cut 4 of his little fingers today on our wall return air vent. This is a GREAT idea! Thank you for sharing!ReplyCancel

  • Adrienne Martorana - You are a lifesaver! Finger saver tooReplyCancel

  • Bridget - Thanks so much for this post! My 7 month old just learned to crawl last week and has started to make a bee line for the air vent. Today, I picked him up and noticed blood on his bib overalls. He had sliced his finger on the grill. I’m going I work on covering this tomorrow!ReplyCancel

  • Barbara Edens - Thank You for this!!! I just found my 7 month old with bloody fingers from sticking them in the wall vent… Gonna be covering them tomorrow!ReplyCancel

Asher is eight months, and is as smart, funny, and adorable as ever! ย I’m a proud mama ๐Ÿ™‚ He’s crawling like a champ, not quite up high on hands and knees, more like hands, thighs and toes with the occasional knees. He’s fast though, it’s working! We’ve had to do some more baby proofing, he loves to explore the whole house. We are no longer content playing in the living room or his bedroom with toys, we are everywhere! I actually prefer this – I can walk around the house doing my thing (cooking, laundry, working on my laptop, etc.) and he follows me wherever I go. He’s super happy these days, and finds everything super interesting ๐Ÿ™‚

He loves playing “stand up sit down” – exactly as it sounds, he’ll grab my hands and stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down… over and over. He’ll be standing on his own soon! ย He’s kinda sick of the exersaucer, he’d rather be on the move! His favorite things to explore are (of course): electrical cords, sharp heat vents (we’ve already had a bloody finger or two), dirty shoes, the dog’s food dish, and backpack straps. Oy. He keeps us on our toes!

Bathtime is funtime too – I think we’re officially done with the infant tub! ย He likes swimming in the big tub, and tons of splashing and kicking ๐Ÿ™‚

He’s gotten very vocal, and loves babbling, talking, singing and yelling. ย Oh, and he has a great new frustrated face – we shouldn’t laugh, but it’s so cute! He wrinkles up his face and breathes really fast and hard through his nose, like a bull snorting. Hilarious!

He’s a great eater – he’s started feeding himself pieces of food, which makes mealtimes an adventure for sure! ย Lexi camps out under his chair waiting for little nuggets of goodness to drop down. He’s still eating some purees and soft foods, but is loving things like waffles, pieces of meat (loves turkey, not a fan of beef yet), little pieces of fruit and veggies, and of course – puffs and cheerios! ย We’re also still nursing, and it is still going great! I’m not sure how long we’ll go – the more he eats of solid food, the less he is needing from me. I think we’re eventually going to taper off in a few months, which is bittersweet. I love that we have our mommy-baby time together, but weaning is just one more part of growing up!

Oh! And he has two top teeth that are on their way – we can see them under the skin. Any day now, and he’ll be a 4-toother!

I want to get outside today and enjoy this weather with him – it’s like spring out there! ย I’ll probably come back and post a few more notes that I don’t want to forget about this stage. But for now – pictures!

  • Jenny Duffy - Oh he’s so perfect!! This is my fav. age! Babies are just the cutest at 8/9 mo. ๐Ÿ˜‰ You must be doing something right, momma! He sure looks like he’s thriving!ReplyCancel

  • Andy Owen - He is so cute it’s hard to handle! My daughter’s timeline was about like his, but Kai is 8 months with no teeth, and barely likes belly time (so no crawling yet). We’re pushing by placing him in ‘starting position’ to crawl, but he’s a bit lazier than his big sister was. ๐Ÿ™‚ Keep having fun! It just gets better and better all the time!ReplyCancel

  • mom - He’s growing so fast, really nice photos of him today ๐Ÿ™‚ReplyCancel
